Q

AO3 practical applications

A

Practical applications in parenting skills training. Crowell et al (2013) - 10 min parent child interaction session improved attachments in 20 low income mothers and their pre school infants, compared to a control group. Can provide reassurance to mothers. Good cause you can identify and support those who are at risk (people who need to get back to work for financial reasons)

Q

AO3 socially sensitive research

A

Research is socially sensitive (has potential impacts on a group/individuals), it will likely devalue or add guilt/stigma. More interactions= better, Cause the more you do them the stronger the attachment. Could create judgement on child rearing practices (cause if parents need to be working and cant hang out with baby they might feel judged)

Q

AO3 are babies acc responding?

A

Feldman (2012) said that synchrony and reciprocity describe behaviours, not purpose (descriptive not explanatory). Babies move a lot (mouth hands in fairly constant movement), how do we know the movement is in response to a stimulus VS a coincidental movement

Q

AO3 observations

A

Observations capture fine detail, highly controlled to enable thorough analysis, controlled observation: high control over setting and distractions and have fewer demand characteristics (baby doesn’t know its being studied), increases validity. Recorded - get multiple observers to categorise behaviours, checking for reliability (inter-observer reliability, if we get a kappa score of 0.8 or higher then we are happy))
