-Close to Europe so easily accessible
-Ex-French colony, so many inhabitants speak French
-has a varied and diverse landscape-Desert and Beaches
-Is a UNESCO world heritage site
-has film locations-attracts fans
-has cheap holiday packages

What have the positives been?

A

-market focused on the package tour concept as 80% of tourists come groups
-demand for tourism has increased, leading to construction of major hotels
-one of the fastest growing economies in the world
-one of the wealthiest countries in africa
-longer life expectancy and healthcare + diet have improved
-literacy rates have increased from 66% to 79%
-school is now compulsory for kids

What are the negatives of the project?

A

-Impacted environment and culture
-government more concerned with the growth of the industry instead of the issues its causing
-“tourism kills tourism”
-some people don’t have access to clean water

Why isn’t tourism fully sustainble?

A

-creates crowds, traffic and litter
-tourists use 8 times more water than a normal resident
-terrorist attacks caused the FCO to advise all but essential travel
