Types Of Data Flashcards
What is qualitative data
Non-numerical data-displayed in words
Strengths of qualitative data
-depth detail
-allows pps to further develop opinion hence greater external validity
-meaningful insight into pps views
Weaknesses of qualitative data
Difficult to analyse
Difficult to make comparisons it’s other data
Researcher bias
What is quantitive data
Numerical data
Strengths of quantitive data
Can be analysed statistically so converted into graphs or charts
Easy to make comparisons with other data
Limitations of quantitive data
Lack of depth detail
No meaningful insights in pps views
Low external validity -pps can’t develop their opinions
What is primary data
Info is obtained first hand by the researcher
Strengths of primary research
Targets the exact info that the researcher needs so data fits their aims and objectives
Limitations primary data
Time consuming
Expensive
What is secondary data
Data is collected by someone else other than researcher
Not first hand
Strengths of secondary data
Cheap
Less time consuming
Limitation of secondary data
May be outdated data
Not reliable data
What is a meta analysis
A researcher looks at the findings of many different studies to produce an overall view
Strengths of meta analysis
More generalisability as using lots of data
Increases validity of conclusions
Limitations of meta analysis
Research design in studies varies so may no be comparable
