Ultra sound Flashcards
(13 cards)
what does ultrasound (us) do
soundwaves are passed through the skin causing tissues to vibrate
what are the effects of us
relieves pain, decreases joint stiffness, increases blood flow, tissue regeneration, stimulates tissue repair
what are the contraindications of us
bleeding tissue, infection, active implants,
what are the precautions of us
insufficient local circulation, anaesthetic
what is the gel used for
to minimise interference of air/steel on soundwaves
whats the ideal angle of the treatment head
more than 15 degrees
what settings should be used for a deep acute injury
depth 1mhz
ratio 20 %
intensity 0.1 -0.3 Wcm
what settings should be used for a non deep chronic injury
depth 3mhz
ratio 50% or higher
intensity 0.3 - 0.8 wcm
what settings for sub acute
ratio 1:3 1:2 1:1) (25%) (33%) (50%)
intensity 0.2 - 0.5 Wcm
what depth is 1mhz and 3mhz
1mhz > 3cm deep
3mhz <3cm deep
if deep use 1mhz
how long is an acute injury
a few days to a few weeks
how long is a sub acute injury
a few weeks 3-5
how long is a chronic injury
lasts longer than 3 months
