What is the gate control theory devised by Melzak and Wall?

A

In the gate control theory, pain is experienced because pain causes pathways for pain receptors to the CNS to open, allowing pain to be experienced. When no longer in pain the gate closes.

No physical evidence of gate through neurotransmitters.

A

Phantom limb is pain in over 80% of those with amputated limb. changes in pain linked with changes in mood

Will feel sensation, movement from the missing limb.
