Be able to explain WHAT each of these each structures actually is and WHAT some of the central components are. - NARRATION
a way of story telling in order and logic which develops a character and plot throughout the text. It can be written in different styles and narration orders such as journal, flashback, chronological order. authors use narrative writing to teach a lesson, or entertain readers.

it is a way of describing physical, emotional, psychological characteristics using 5 senses. it can be objective ( fact based, precise language ) or subjective (adding personal thoughts and feelings.) it is important to provide a specific details.
You should be able to define these terms and identify them in a sentence. - PHRASE
it can be a group of words or just a single word with either subject or a verb, never both. it can be a part of clause.

it is a group of words with subject or a verb which can be a complete sentence. independent clause is a clause that stand alone in a sentence and still makes sense while dependent clause doesn’t make sense alone in a sentence because of a mess up word.
describe thesis
thesis is a main idea that the author is trying to say through/ throughout the essay
types of phrases and example of phrase
verb phrase, prepositional phrase, noun phrase, adjective phrase.- new car, fluffy cat.
explicit thesis?
main idea expressed directly, usually in the beginning of an essay and stated obviously.
Implied thesis?
main idea expressed subtly throughout the essay, usually in the end of the essay.
dominant impression? narrative/descriptive?
mood, tone, feeling conveyed throughout the whole essay which supports the thesis, to create a lasting impression.
