Unit 2 Flashcards
monomer is amino acids, performs functions including strengthen hair and nails, supports skin, tendons, and ligaments, actin and myosin help to move muscles, transport proteins such as hemoglobin, enzymes speed up chemical reactions
proteins
main source of energy, structural, monosaccharides is simple sugars, polysaccharides are long polymers of many glucose molecules, starch in plants, glycogen in animals, cellulose
carbohydrates
do not dissolve in water, aka fats and oils, functions include long term storage, insulation, cushion around organs, monomer is fatty acids
lipids
monomer is nucleotides that consist of three parts phosphate, sugar, and nitrogen base, polymer is DNA and RNA
nucleic acids
