Unit 3 Flashcards
(7 cards)
Explain John Dalton’s atom model
First model of an atom, created in 1803, recognized that atoms of particular elements were different from others. Basically a dot
Explain J.J. Thomson’s atomic model
Plum pudding model created in 1904, discovered and recognized electrons as part of atoms
Explain Ernest Rutherford’s atomic model
Created in 1911, has positively charged nucleus found by firing alpha particles at a thin sheet of gold foil
Explain Niel Bohr’s atomic model
Created in 1913, added electrons orbit and explained the emission spectra of some elements
Explain Erwin Schrödinger’s atomic model
Created in 1926, used widely today. Shows electrons move in clouds instead of orbits
What elements form covalent bonds?
Nonmetals and nonmetals, have similar electronegativity
What elements form ionic bonds?
Metals and nonmetals. Have a large difference in electronegativity
