What was the Articles of Confederation?
It was the first government created by the independent colonies. It was weak because they didn’t want a strong federal government after how they were ruled by the British. It had to be replaced because it caused many issues.
What was the Northwest Ordinance?
It was the process for admitting new states to the U.S.
What was the Great Compromise?
Decided how many representatives states would send to Congress meetings based on their size.
What was the Three-Fifths Compromise?
An agreement for how slaves counted for representation and taxation purposes. It stated that 3 of 5 slaves counted as people.
What are Federalists?
A political party that supported a strong central government. It was known for Alexander Hamilton and James Madison.
What are Anti-Federalists?
They were against the constitution and wanted a weak central government and instead a strong state government. They wanted a bill of rights. Patrick Henry and George Mason.
