Ordination
Includes the taking of a number of vows, the shaving of one’s head, the receiving of robes, begging bowl and other simple objects of monastic life.
Monastic robes
Throughout the Buddhist world the robes of a monk or nun indicate the particular Buddhist school they are committed to and affirm their status as renunciates committed to the path of Buddha.

No, because he was in the presence of men when he stated “ It is better to put your penis in the mouth of a poisonous snake than in the vagina of a woman.”
Importance of discipline in monastic traditions
Monks have to lead a disciplined, humble life. It is the central tenets of monastic life.
Devadatta
A Buddhist monk who sought to reform the sangha (monastic community). He is the cousin of Buddha. He failed to win control of the order. He attempted to assassinate the Buddha by sending a wild elephant to trample him and later by rolling a boulder down upon him.
Women and monasticism
The Buddha famously stated that if women were to join the sangha then dharma would be cut in half. He also stated that women were best suited for the attainment of enlightenment.
5 vows of the lay people

Buddhism and sexual practice
Monks and nuns are prohibited from sexual intercourse. lay Buddhists honor sexuality not only for its creative power but also a practice that expedites the path to nirvana.
Buddhism and the state
There was an Indian leader who converted to Buddhism after he had a powerful vision on the battlefield which revealed the wisdom of non-violence to him. Since then many Asian leaders have adopted Buddhism.
Emperor Ashoka
He was the first political ruler to convert to Buddhism. It was after his powerful vision on the battlefield. He was an Indian emperor.
Dalai Lama
A living representative of a long standing tradition of Buddhist leaders in Tibet.
Buddhism and warfare
Buddhist are known for being about peace and non-violence. However, they still are involved in war like currently there is an ethnic cleansing against Muslims.
