Q

Wats of assessing concurrent validity

A

Compare findings of new findings wiht findings of an existing study
Correlations exceeds +0.8, it has high concurrent validity

Q

Improving validity of experiments

A
  • Control group - whether changes in dv is due to effect of iv
  • Standardised procedures - minimises impact of PP reactivity and investigator effects on the validity of the outcome
  • Use of single and double blind for same aim

Q

Improving validity of questionnaires

A
  • Lie scale - assess consistency of a respondant’s response and control for the effects of social desireability bias
  • Assuring data submitted is anonymous

Q

Improving validity of observations

A
  • Covert observations - natural and authentic
  • Behavioural categories - too broad/overlapping/ambiguous may have negative impact on validity of data collected

Q

Improving validity of qualitative research

A

Even though high ecological validity has to demonstrate interprative validity of their conclusions
Exetnt to which researchers interpretations of even matches that od their pps

Demonstrated through:

  • Coherence of the researchers narrative and the the inclusions of direct quotes from PPs within the report
  • Triangulation - use of a number of different sources as evidence e.g interviews, personal diaries, observations etc
