How has life expectancy improved? (3)
Changing employment- many in tertiary and quaternary so fewer in physically demanding
Increasing wealth- households earn more on average, improved lifestyles eg gym, home-cooked foods)
Fewer risks to life- stricter health and safety regulations, increased vaccination programmes, improved knowledge on smoking etc
Why do some counties have varied health and life expectancies? (3)
Economic decline- deindustrialization- unemployment and deprivation eg mining towns in Scotland and Wales (closed 30 years ago)
Culture- after work drinking= excessive drinking and smoking
Densely populated cities- spread of infectious diseases eg London, Manchester (tourists, business people)

Female- 84.33
What is the average life expectancy in North West?
Male- 77.94
Female- 81.72
Why is life expectancy lower in North East England?
Higher death rates- high smoking and alcohol consumption
Spending on fresh foods lower in N England:
More manual jobs, with lower wages
More unemployment due to deindustrialisation
Higher levels of deprivation
