Classification

Hormone, nonadrenergic vasoconstrictor

Mechanism of Action

  • Causes vasoconstriction independent of adrenergic receptors or neural innervations
  • Antidiuretic hormone

Indications

  • Adult shock-refractory VF or pulseless VT, asystole, PEA

Contraindications

  • Responsive patients with cardiac disease

Adverse Effects

  • Cardiac ischemia
  • Angina
  • Hypertension
  • Bradycardia

Administration

  • 40 U IV/IO single dose only, may replace either first or second dose of epinephrine
  • May be given ET but the optimal dose is not known
