16
Q

What forms the anterior portion of the arterial circle?

A

Anterior cerebral arteries and anterior communicating artery

17
Q

What artery forms the posterior portion of the arterial circle?

A

Posterior cerebral arteries and posterior communicating arteries

18
Q

What artery is formed by the fusion of the vertebral arteries?

A

Basilar artery

19
Q

What is a dural sinus?

A

A venous channel located between layers of dura mater that drains blood from the brain

20
Q

What sinus drains most of the superior surface of the cerebrum?

A

Superior sagittal sinus

21
Q

What sinus receives blood from the great cerebral vein?

A

Straight sinus

22
Q

What sinus drains blood from the eye socket and cerebral veins?

A

Cavernous sinus

23
Q

Where does the sigmoid sinus drain into?

A

The internal jugular vein

24
Q

What vein collects blood from the dural sinuses and deep face?

A

Internal jugular vein

25
What vein drains the more superficial portions of the head and face?
External jugular vein
26
What are the tributaries of the internal jugular vein?
Inferior petrosal sinus, facial, lingual, superior and middle thyroid veins
27
What are the tributaries of the external jugular vein?
Retromandibular, posterior auricular, posterior external jugular, transverse cervical, suprascapular Tributaries are smaller veins that drain into a larger vein—just like small streams flowing into a larger river. So, when we talk about the tributaries of the external jugular vein, we mean the veins that flow into it.
28
What sinus allows reabsorption of cerebrospinal fluid?
Superior sagittal sinus via arachnoid granulations
29
Where do the vertebral veins drain?
Into the brachiocephalic veins

the brachiocephalic artery (also called the brachiocephalic trunk) comes from…
the aortic arch. Here’s the sequence: • The aortic arch gives off three major branches: 1. Brachiocephalic trunk (only on the right side) 2. Left common carotid artery 3. Left subclavian artery The brachiocephalic trunk then branches into the right subclavian artery and the right common carotid artery, supplying the right arm and the right side of the head and neck. Mnemonic: “Boys Like Sex” → Brachiocephalic, Left common carotid, Subclavian (left)
