Week 12 - Thoracic & Lumbar Spines Flashcards
AP/PA target for Lumbar Spine
VCR along midline of patient, at level of LCM
AP/PA Lumbo-sacral spine target
VCR along MSP of patient, at level of iliac crests
AP/PA lumbar spine collimation
upper = xiphisternum
side = mid clavicular line
lower = midway between ASIS & SP
Lateral lumbar spine target
VCR at point 7.5 cm anterior to L3 spinous process
Lateral lumbo-sacral spine target
VCR at point 7.5 cm anterior to L3 spinous process
Lateral lumbar spine collimation
upper = level of xiphisternum
side = posterior to 2cm anterior to mid-coronal plane
lower = midway between ASIS & SP
ideal position of AP lumbar spine
- psoas muscles shown
- spinous processes aligned to midline of vertebral bodies
- equal distance between spinous processes & pedicles
- sacrum & coccyx centered within pelvis inlet
- vertebral bodies shown w/o distortion
ideal area of AP lumbar spine
T12 - L5, sacroiliac joints, sacrum, psoas muscles included
ideal position of lateral lumbar spine
- open intervertebral disk spaces
- vertebral bodies shown w/o distortion
- intervertebral foramina shown w/o overlaps
ideal area of lateral lumbar spine
T11 - L5, sacrum
AP sacrum target
VCR angled 10 to 25 degrees cranially along midline of patient at level between ASIS & superior border of SP
AP coccyx target
VCR angled 10 - 15 degrees caudally to midline of patient at point 2.5 cm superior to SP
AP sacrum collimation
upper = level of iliac crests
side = both ASIS
lower = level of SP
Lateral sacrum collimation
upper = level of ASIS
side = both ASIS
lower = level of SP
Lateral sacrum target
VCR along long axis of sacrum, at level midway between PSIS & sacro-coccygeal junction
