Week 1b ATP-PCr Flashcards

1
Q

Describe how ATP is resynthesis via the ATP-PCr system

A

→ ATP is breakdown into ADP and inorganic phosphate (Pi)
→PCr, donate a Pi group to ADP to regenerate ATP

The reaction is activated by the enzyme - creatine kinase, it transfers the P group from PCr to ADP, forming ATP and creatine

Q

The importance of ATP-PCr system towards brief high-intensity exercise

A

→ Significant ATP resynthesis coming from PCr hydrolysis during the maximal exercise of greater than 6 seconds

→ The total PCr depletion can happen in about 15 seconds of maximal all-out exercise

Q

How PCr is resynthesised and an approximate timeframe

A

→ REquire the presence of ATP and creatine

→Individuals with a high-capacity aerobic energy system have a faster replenishment.

→ Different sources suggest slightly different in timeline
50% of resting content is replenished - 1 mins of large disturbance
