Authoritarian parenting/educator style
-the adult is in control

-child makes all decisions
-adults do not set boundaries or intervene in inappropriate behavior

-adults and children share control
-chilsreb have choice
- adults are warm, responsive and caring
-adults set reasonable boundaries and limits
What do children learn from authoritarian parenting
-how to follow rules

Family systems theory(Murray Bowen)
This theory suggests that individuals cannot be understood in isolation from one another

Open families
Open families are generally close and healthy. People feel free, unique and have a sense of community. There is enduring approval among people.
Close families
Are close in a different way. They believe sameness and control keeps people together. In such families people are overly close and often unhealthy
Characteristics of open families
-people are celebrated
-relatuonships are nurtured
-communicaton flows
-rules can be changed
-change is embraced

Can be positive or negative
When positive adds extra stability to a two person relationship
When negative adds polarization and toxicity

Favouring one thing or group over another
Implicit bias
Automatic and unintentional thoughts and actions based on bias
Explicit bias
Awareness of one’s own bias and acting purposefully in accordance with ones bias
