week 6 Flashcards
(16 cards)
How is conversion done in a closed loop workflow?
Looking up device counts of the original colour and corresponding device counts
How is conversion done in an open system workflow?
Device counts are converted through profile connection space (PCS) as a common language
Source colour space /profile
Device counts before conversion, the associated colorimetric values of the original image. colour
Destination colour space/profile
Device counts after conversion, the associated colorimetric values of the resulting image colour
Profile connection space
colorimetric colour space, the common language of colour for all ICC profiles; usually Lab*
A2B
Used to lookup colorimetric values (B) associated with device counts (A)
B2A
Used to lookup device counts (A) associated with colorimetric values (B)
Rendering intent
The way colours are remapped to destination colour space
when two device gamuts do not match
What two colour spaces are always required to make a colour conversion?
Source Profile and Destination profile
Why are ICC profiles useless alone?
There needs to be an engine to do the conversions and work, and there needs to be 2 ICC profiles to compare
Are CMYK and RGB enough on their own?
No
What is the Colour Management module?
The engine of the ICC workflow, does calculations and navigates lookup tables
Apple and Adobe have built in CMMs
True
What is the perceptual rendering intent’s LUT?
A2B0/ B2A0
What is the relative/ absolute rendering intent’s LUT?
A2B1/ B2A1
What is the saturation rendering intent’s LUT?
A2B2/ B2A2
