week 7 Flashcards
(16 cards)
What colour theory do monitors use?
RGB
What colour has a smaller gamut in monitors?
Cyan
What are the two type of monitor technologies?
CRT (cathode ray tubes) and LCD (liquid crystal display)
Which type of monitor technology is older?
CRT (cathode ray tube)
Which type of monitor technology is more predictable?
CRT (cathode ray tube), LCD need more measuring to predict how it will act
What type of light of CRT monitors use?
Phosphor electron guns
Which type of monitor is brighter?
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
How do LCD monitors display colours?
Liquid crystals open and close allowing more or less light to pass behind the screen out the front which creates certain colours
What are the type of LCD monitors?
White light, fluorescent backlit, LED backlit, wide gamut
Fluorescent backlit LCD
traditional monitor, light source is a fluorescent tube, uses a lot of power, odd green spikes
LED backlit LCD
newer monitor, light source are LED, energy efficient and brighter
Wide Gamut LCD
larger available colour gamuts, increased cyan gamut
What are the consistency and optimization settings for monitors?
Brightness, contrast, colour temperature or RGB balance
What are the monitor characterizations calibration aim points?
White point, luminance, contrast ratio/ gamma
What rendering intent is used when converting to the monitor colour space?
Relative colorimetric rendering intent
What should you calibrate the monitor white point to?
D50
