Week 7 Flashcards
(4 cards)
What are the 5 common problems faced by all animal species
1) Obtaining food. Locating, ingesting, and digesting.
2) Obtaining oxygen.
3) Homeostasis. Water, Temperature
4) Storing/excreting nitrogenous waste
5) Reproduce successfully.
In what forms do Freshwater fish, seed-eating birds, and kangaroos excrete nitrogenous waste, and why they use this form?
Fish = Ammonia. Able t diffuse through gills. Bird = Uric acid. Requires no water to process. Kangaroo = Urea. Can be reused by gut bacteria to aid in protein synthesis.
What is the difference between radial and bilateral symmetry.
Radial = symmetric no mater how you cut it through the middle.
Bilateral = Only symmetric if cut down the middle from dorsal to ventricle
Why is the terrestrial environment the harshest of environments for life.
Supporting their body weight with out buoyancy.
Water loss.
Respiratory surfaces moved inside the body.
Converting to urea and uric acid excretion.
