define disability
“…disability is an evolving concept …that …results from the interaction between persons with impairments and attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinders their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others”

what is the NDIS and its aims
The NDIS is a no-fault national disability insurance scheme
It aims to support the independence and social and economic participation of people with disability
o Plan is for 460,000 Australians to receive support
key challenges of ageing populations
- Age related health problems (e.g. cancer, dementia, arthritis)
- Younger cohort (65+) have a larger burden of lifestyle related diseases than previous generations
advanced care planning
Planning for the future. If a person is unwell, advanced care planning ensures that a person can communicate and convey that persons wishes for health on there behalf.
- The medical treatment planning and decision bill in 2016 allows for health practitioners to make decisions for those without decision making capacity while respecting their preferences and values.
