Week 8 AP Vocabulary Flashcards
(12 cards)
Occipital Lobes
Portion of the cerebral cortex lying at the back of the head includes areas that receives information from the visual fields
Frontal Lobes
Portion of the cerebral cortex lying just behind the forehead involved in speaking and muscle movements and in making plans and judgments
Motor Cortex
An area at the rear of the frontal lobe that controls voluntary movement part of the brain were the nerve impulses originate that initiate voluntary muscular activity
Hypothalamus
I neural structure lying below or hypo the thalamus is linked to motion and reward
Limbic System
Donut shaped neurosystem located below the cerebral hemispheres associated with emotion and drives including the hippo campus in amygdala and hypothalamus
Cerebellum
The “little brain” at the rear of the brainstem functions include processing sensory input and coordinating movement input and output
Medulla
The base of the brainstem controls heartbeat and breathing (involuntary functions)
Dual Processing
The principle that information is often Simon tediously processed on separate conscious and unconscious tracks
Split Brains
A condition resulting from surgery that isolates the brains two hemispheres by cutting the fibers (mainly corpus callosum) connecting them
Amygdala
To lima beans size neural clusters in the limbic system linked to emotion
Corpus Callosum
A large band of neural fibers connecting the two brain hemispheres and caring messages between them.
Temporal Lobes
Portion of the cerebral cortex lying roughly above the ears includes auditory areas, each receiving information, primarily from the opposite ear.
