Western Blotting, Southern Blotting, Northern Blotting, and ELIZA Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is Western blotting?
a technique that combines protein electrophoresis with antibody binding to identify target proteins with high specificity and sensitivity
What does Western Blotting do?
separate proteins by size using gel electrophoresis, transfer to membrane, and detecting specific proteins with antibodies
What technique is similar to Western blotting?
ELIZA
What is the abbreviation ELIZA stand for?
Enzyme-linked immunoassay
What is the abbreviation for Enzyme-linked immunoassay?
ELIZA
How does ELIZA differ from Western blotting?
primarily differs because of its application and methodology
What does ELIZA do?
uses antibodies to detect and quantify proteins directly in a liquid sample
- protein of interest binds to a solid surface and detection achieved with enzyme-linked antibody that produces a measurable signal (color change)
What is ELIZA suitable for?
High throughput and quantitative analysis
What is Southern Blotting for?
Detects specific DNA sequence within a complex DNA sample
What is Northern blotting for?
Detects specific RNA sequences within a complex RNA sample
