Who's who in learning theory Flashcards
(7 cards)
b.F. skInnEr
Father of Operant Conditioning.
Learning happens as a result of the causes of an action and it’s consequences.
Introduced the term reinforcement
Dog sits (action) gets treat (consequence) This +Reinforcement makes the action more strengthened / more likely to be repeated
Dog jumps on you (action) you turn your back (consequence) This is - Punishment makes the action weakened/ less likely to be repeated
DaviD PREmack
“Grandma’s rule”
Form of Operant Conditioning. Behaviors with a higher probability of being displayed= activities/behaviors they enjoy vs lower probability=activities/behaviors they do not enjoy.
Premack principle states a more desirable activity/behavior can be used to motivate a less desirable behavior/activity.
Making a dog sit & wait to then be allowed to go for a walk.
John WatSON
BABY alBert
Behaviorism/classical conditioning
Founder of behaviorism- theory that focuses on how people learn through interactions with the environment.
BEHAVIORS ARE ACQUIRED THROUGH CONDITIONING which is a process through reinforcement and punishment.
Baby Albert= he conditioned a fear response proving that emotions can be conditioned through classical conditioning.
ivAn PavLov
classical conditioning
Learning through Associating events or stimulus repeatedly Paired together is classic conditioning.
Two stimuli paired together= learned response
One of the first theories in Behaviorism
Edward ThrOnDIKE
Law of effect- most learning steams from trial and error
Strengthening or weaking of behaviors are based on their consequences
Operant Conditioning
Which trainer is often credited with bringing operant conditioning and marker training (clicker training) into mainstream dog training?
Karen Pryor
What method is associated with Bob Bailey’s work in animal training?
Operant conditioning and precision clicker training
Bob Bailey, alongside Marian Breland Bailey (students of Skinner), trained thousands of animals using operant conditioning, often with military and commercial applications. He’s known for clicker precision and performance-based shaping.
