What are the three different nursery provisions?
Day nursery: Usually private and ran by non-profit charities, government funded free places for 3/4 year olds.
Statutory/maintained nursery class: free to attend and usually attached to a primary school
Nursery school: Not usually attached to a primary school, independently ran, Montessori nursery school

Responsible for children’s services and education. Produces key publications including statutory guidance and policies to support legislation.
What does the Office for standards in education, children’s services and skills (Ofsted) do?
Regulator and inspector of safeguarding, education and skills setting for learners of all ages from babies upwards.
What does the Office of qualifications and examinations regulation (Ofqual) do?
Regulates qualifications and assessments and examinations in England.

Elementary education act- Provision of education is introduced for children aged 5-13. It is compulsory to attend from 5-10 for ‘educational attainment’

Education and skills act- 16-18 year olds in England must stay in education or training.
What is the role of a DSL?
They are responsible for safeguarding within the school or EYFS. All of the staff must know who this person is and how to report concerns to them.
What is the role of a DP?
They are responsible for a specific area. Have other responsibilities such as teaching or management.
What is the role of a PANCO?
Responsible for promoting physical activity and nutrition. Advise staff and liaise with parents.
What is the role of a mentor / pastoral support?
Responsible for pastoral care and emotional well being. Offer support to be able to overcome a range of social and emotional issues.
