Working Memory Model Flashcards

1
Q

Define the working memory model

A

Rep. of STM. Suggests STM is a dynamic processor of diff types of info using sub-units coordinated by a central decision-making system

2
Q

Define the central executive.

A

Co-ordinates activities of the other 3 sub-systems in STM. It monitors incoming data and allocates tasks to the other slave systems.
- Has limited processing capacity

6
Q

What is the articulatory process? What is the capacity of the loop?

A

Allows maintenance rehearsal - repeating sounds/words in a loop to keep it in working memory.
The loop’s capacity is 2 seconds of what you can say

Q

What psychologist in what year split visuo spatial sketchpad into what 2 things?

A

Logie 1995
Visual cache - stores visual data

9
Q

Define the episodic buffer.

A

Temporary store of info which combines info from other subsystems (visual, spatial, verbal) into a single memory rather than several separate strands.
It provides a bridge between working memory and LTM
