Q

What is inactive status and why might one want to put their license on inactive status? What is the term of inactive status (how long)?

A

Inactive status is for psychologists who may leave practice in MD for several years but would like to keep the option of returning to practice open. To reactivate, all you have to do is complete a renewal application, pay the fee, and demonstrate proof of meeting the CE requirements for the most recent two-year cycle. This is much easier than letting your license lapse (because then to practice again you’d have to re-apply, pay all fees, submit proof of supervised experience, transcripts, and take the MD State Exam again). To request inactive status, all you do is submit a written request to the Board and pay a fee. You may request inactive status for 5 years; you may then apply to have the inactive status extended for 5 more years.

Q

When must a license be renewed by (month, day, # of years) and what is the procedure?

A

March 31st every two years. To renew a license, you must fill out a form the Board sends to you, pay a renewal fee, and certify you have met all CE requirements for that two-year period. A license automatically expires when a psychologist fails to meet the renewal requirements by March 31st.
