A
flat sheet of pliable tissue that covers or lines a part of the body

epithelial membrane
A
combination of epithelial layer and underlying tissue
e.g. mucous, serous, and cutaneous membranes

A
line joints and contain connective tissue, but not epithelium
-secrete synovial fluid to reduce friction

A
lines cavities open to the outside world
- epithelia = defense against pathogens
- areolar ct is called “lamina propia”

- lines cavities closed to the outside world
- secretes serous fluid
- serous membrane: visceral and parietal
- simple squamous (mesophelium) on areolar ct base
