What is the general definition of schizoaffective disorder

A

schizoaffective disorder- group of disorder in which both affective and psychotic disorders are prominant but EQUALLY -but doesnt fully justify either scizo or BPAD/depress

DSM V duration - psychotic state last >2weeks without concurrent affective sx
2 episodes of psychosis needed
1>2w w/o affective
1 w obvious overlap with affective disorder

What are the 2 types of schizoaffective disorder

A

BOTH OF THESE HAVE both parts develop AT THE SAME TIME (unlike scizo)

Manic type-
Both scizo and manic sx prominant,
single episode or reccurent disorder (majority manic episodes

Depressive types -
schizo and depressive
single episode or reccurent (most depressive)

A

Treat as scizophrenia with mood stabiliser if the affective disorder isnt too well controlled)
meaning -atypical -> typical -> Clozapine
and psycho social
