Anatomy

A
  • Lisfranc joint is where the mets join the rest of the foot at the cuneiform and cuboid bones
  • Lisfranc ligament is plantar ligaments commonly injured, runs from medial cuneiform to 2nd metatarsal

Causes

A
  • indirect trauma longitudinal force with plantarflexion

- Direct trauma, crush injury

Diagnosis

A
  • Palpable tenderness to dorsal midfoot region
  • pain is present in area for greater then 5 days
  • swelling/bruising around midfoot
  • aggravated forefoot weight bearing
  • Piano keys test
  • Radiology findings, weight bearing x-ray

Treatment

A
  • Needs to be treated ASAP for better outcomes
  • Walking moon boot 6 weeks
  • Orthotics and footwear to prevent midfoot collapse and flexion
  • Reduce tightness via stretching/foam rolling
