Intrinsic motivation
behaviour demonstrated voluntarily

Extrinsic Motivation
behaviour demonstrated for purpose of achieving some end
external reward
3 basic psychological Needs
Autonomy: needs to feel like they have a choice. In control
Competent: They need to feel like they are competent. Feel effective at achieving desired outcome.
Relatedness: Socially connected with others
Mediator
Intermediary factor that help explain the relationship between predictor and outcome.
3 different levels of influence
Global: in general
Contextual: In context, school, sports
Situational: at any specific time

Internalisation which person take in value but doesn’t accept as his own .

Behaviour is valued and done out of choice but for extrinsic reasons.

Activity is personally important and directed towards a valued outcome.
Part of one’s sense of self.
Not doing it cuz they like it it is part of who they are .

How do we define success
- Self referent terms: did we improve from before
- Norm referent term: Are we better than others
Rewards
Controlling aspect: more controlling = undermined self-determination ( autonomy)
Informational aspect: enhance self determination
Affect Competence perception
Cooperation
If done well, they feel more relatedness and enjoy it. but if done wrong, you don’t feel relatedness and is less motivated.
