Q

Describe amylose and amylopectin

A

Amylose is glucose monomers joined together by 1,4-glycosidic bonds
In a helical structure formed by hydrogen bonds. (UNBRANCHED)
Compact = good for strength

Amylopectin is formed by a chain of glucose monomers joined together by 1,4-glycosidic bonds with other chains bonded onto the chain by 1,6-glycosdic bonds (BRANCHED - every 25-30 molecules)
Branched = more easily hydrolysed

Q

Glycogen

A

Glycogen is an extensively branched polymer of glucose glucose monomers attached via 1-4 glycosidic bonds. Branches attatched by 1,6-glycosidic bonds
