Eukaryotic+Prokaryotic Flashcards

1
Q

Describe what are Eukaryotic Cells are and how how many cells are there?

What are prokaryotic cells?

A

Eukaryotic cells are membrane-bound organelles
12=2 plant cells + 10 Animals cells

Prokaryotic cells are not membrane bound organelles

Q

What are the two plant cells present in Eukaryotic Cells?
Describe them and what is their function?

A

Chloroplast which is double membrane and is the site of photosynthesis.

Cell wall which is composed of cellulose.

Determine strength, shape and support of cell.

Q

What are the two Endoplasmic Reticulum present in Eukaryotic cells and what are their function and describe them?

A

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum- Has Large number of ribosomes attached to it.
Function: Synthesise and ‘make changes’ to proteins

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum:
Function- Lipid Synthesise, toxin modification and Glycogenesis

[Glycogenesis- Glucose converted into Glycogen]

Q

Describe everything about Mitochondria?
What is function of mitochondria?
What is the adaptation?

A

Mitochondria is double membrane.
Function: Site of Aerobic Respiration

Adaptation: Is folded called Cristae which gives it a large Surface Area so rate of Aerobic Respiration maximally increased.

Q

Contrasts Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells?

A

Eukaryotic cells are membrane-bound organelles and prokaryotic cells are not membrane-bound organelles.

Prokaryotic are smaller then Eukaryotes
(70s Ribosomes in Prokaryotic and 80s Eukaryotic)
