internal bleeding causing vomiting of blood; often with burning/gnawing pain in abdomen due to ulcers or severe inflammation in stomach lining
esophagogastroduodenoscopy EGD
diagnostic endoscopic procedure including visualization of oropharynx, esophagus, stomach, and proximal duodenum. One of the most common procedures of a gastroenterologist.
falciform ligament
sickle-shaped fibrous structure connecting anterior part of the liver to ventral wall of abdomen.
gastroparesis
delayed gastric emptying; slows or stops movements of food from stomach to small intestine without blockage. Often due to diabetes damaging the nerves associated with digestion.
