A

Bordetella pertussis infection

Transmission: respiratory droplets

Classic Clinical Presentation:
whooping cough
- Catarrhal stage: resemble other respiratory infections (low-grade fever, runny nose, sneezing, mild cough. This is the most contagious stage)
- Paroxysmal stage: bursts of paroxysmal cough (lungs emptied in a series of 5-20 cough before inspiratory gasp through a narrowed throat which produces the ‘whoop’), once this stage is established, may persist for several months (convalescent stage)

“Pertussis means “violent cough.” Bordetella pertussis causes whooping cough”

Included in DTaP (Diptheria-Tetanus- acellular Pertussis) vaccine.

Tdap is the same, just that smaller letter = less amount of d and ap lol.
