Brucella spp. infection

Transmission:
zoonotic - either
- direct contact with infected animal
- consumption of contaminated meat/milk/cheese
- inhalation of aerosols

Clinical Presentation:
Brucellosis (Maltese/undulating fever):
- PUO
- chronic brucellosis (low grade fever with malaise)
- bone and joint symptom (esp sacro-iliac joints)
- osteomyelitis
- endocarditis
**(associated with many other febrile diseases, but with emphasis on muscular pain and night sweats. The duration of the disease can vary from a few weeks to many months or even years.)
