Hypoperfusion (Shock) Flashcards
What are the 2 extrinsic causes of cardiogenic shock?
-Cardiac Tamponade
-Tension Pnuemothorax
What are the 4 types of shock?
-Cardiogenic
-Distributive
-Hypovolemic
-Obstructive
What are the 2 intrinsic causes of cardiogenic shock?
-Heart muscle damage (Decreased oxygenation, decreases contractility)
-Valvular disruption (Sudden blow to chest/abdomen, damage to valves in heart)
How long does it take to potentially damage beyond repair the skin and muscle tissue in anaerobic metabolism?
4-6 hours
Anaerobic metabolism associated with decreased cellular oxygenation produces what?
An increase in lactic acid.
How long does it take to potentially damage beyond repair the heart, lungs and brain in anaerobic metabolism?
4-6 minutes
How long does it take to potentially damage beyond repair the abdominal organs in anaerobic metabolism?
45-90 minutes
When assessing for shock, what signs would you see from the brain and central nervous system?
-Decreased LOC
-Anxiety
-Disorientation
-Bizarre Behaivior
When assessing for shock, what signs would you see from the heart and cardiovascular system?
-Tachycardia
-Decreased systolic and pulse pressure
When assessing for shock, what signs would you see from the respiratory system?
-Rapid shallow breathing
When assessing for shock, what signs would you see from the skin and extremities?
-Cold, pale, clammy, diaphoretic (sweaty) or cyanotic skin with decreased capillary refill
If during a long transport you notice the patient has not produced urine, you suspect they might be in…
Shock
Shock decreases urine output. Blood flow is limited or cut off from kidneys. The kidneys cannot make urine without blood flow.
What are the 3 large cavities of the body that can hold large amounts of blood?
-Chest
-Abdomen
-Pelvis
How would someone in neurogenic shock present?
- Warm, flushed skin
- Priapism
- Bradycardia
- Hypotensive
What is one of the earliest signs of anaerobic metabolism and shock?
Tachypnea
Usually comes earlier than tachycardia
