15.11 Fuel Systems Flashcards
(22 cards)
What does FADEC stand for?
Full Authority Digital Engine Control
What is a rich blowout?
When there’s not enough oxygen to support combustion as fuel flow increased too rapidly
What are the 3 engine fuel metering system types?
Hydro mechanical, hydro mech/electronic and FADEC
What does EEC do?
Meters fuel flow and is the computer that controls FADEC
What are the functions of the fuel control systems?
Schedule fuel flow to match power required by flight crew
What does the Fuel Metering Unit do?
Starts and stops fuel
What does the HP fuel pump increase fuel to?
900psi
What does the LO fuel pump increase fuel pressure to?
175psi
Do vane fuel pumps produce more/less than the required amount for combustion?
More
What assembly provides the fuel metering function for the EFCU?
Hydro mechanical fuel control assembly
What is the fuel distribution layout? (9)
Fuel tank, LP fuel shut off valve, LP fuel pump, Oil cooler, fuel filter, HP fuel pump, FCU, fuel flow transmitter and fuel manifold
How is the fuel pump lubricated?
By fuel passing through
Where is the LP filter installed and why?
Between supply tanks and engine fuel system to protect engine driven fuel pumps
What are the 2 types of fuel pumps?
Constant displacement and non constant displacement
What does the primary fuel system do?
Store fuel
What does the secondary fuel system do?
Supplies fuel to engine
What are the 3 filters used and which is the most used?
Micron, wafer screen and plain screen mesh. Micron filter
What are the most used filters?
200 mesh and 35 mesh
When are shrouds used?
On fluid lines that are routed through critical areas to catch leaks
What are the 2 types of fuel nozzles?
Simplex and duplex
What is the most used fuel nozzle on GTE?
Duplex
Why is a check valve used in the fuel nozzle?
To prevent carbon formation
