What is the issue with someone who has type 1 diabetes?

A
  • Their pancreas is not producing insuilin (or not enough) so blood glucose levels remain very high
  • This can lead to them feeling ill or even death

How is type 1 diabetes treated?

A
  • Treated via an insuilin injection after a meal usually in the abdomen or thigh

What is the amount of insuilin given in type 1 diabetes dependent on?

A
  • What they’ve eaten (food high in carbs = more insuilin)
  • How much exercise they do (if they exercise regularly then muscles take in more glucose for respiration)
