Q

How do kidneys produce urine and filter blood?

A
  • Kidneys contain millions of structures known as nephrons
  • In the nephrons, all small molecules diffuse from the glomerulus into the bowman’s capsule
  • Further down the tubule, useful substances are reabsorbed into the blood. This includes almost all glucose and amino acids, some water and ions and no urea
  • The fluid left in the tubule is known as urine
