why were they developed?

A

The guidelines have been developed to provide advice relating to the types and amounts of foods, food groups and dietary patterns to help Austrlians to: reduce the risk of diet related diseases e.g. hypertension.
Reduce the risk of developing chronic conditions eg type 2 diabetes, CVD and some cancers.

what do the guidlines consist of?

A

There are 5 written statements/guidelines that provide general advice on the food intake to improve the health and wellbeing of all Australians.

The guidelines cover the 5 main food groups and provide advice on serving sizes and a number of serves for males and females of different ages and for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
