Immunology Peer Tute 4 Flashcards
What’s the role of MHCs?
Antigen presentation
What antigens can MHCs present?
Peptide only
What’s the inheritance pattern of MHCs?
Co-dominance
What’s another name for MHCs?
HLA
How many HLAs do normal nucleated cells have? What are they?
6
1 x maternal and 1 x paternal HLA-A, -B, and -C
How many HLAs do APCs have? What are they?
12
1 x maternal and 1x paternal HLA-A, -B, -C, -DP, -DQ, -DR
Which cells don’t have MHCs?
RBCs
Can a nucleated cell have only 5 types of HLA?
Yes!
If the maternal and paternal ones are the same
What are the two pathways of antigen processing in a cell?
Cytosolic
Endosomal
What type of HLA does cytosolic processing usually use?
MHC I
Cause it’s a normal cell showing that it’s infected
What type of HLA does endosomal processing usually use?
MHC 2
Cause it’s only APCs that phagocytose antigens
What does cross presentation refer to?
Endosomal antigens getting into the endoplasmic reticulum and being presented on MHC I’s
