3.1 Divisions of the Nervous System Flashcards
(12 cards)
What does the CNS consist of?
Brain and Spinal cord
What does the PNS consist of?
Somatic Nervous system
Autonomic Nervous system
What does the somatic nervous system contain?
sensory and motor neurons.
What does the senory neurons do?
Carries impulses from sense
organs to the CNS.
What does the Motor neuron do?
Carries impulses from the CNS to muscle and glands.
What does the Autonomic nervous system consist of?
sympathetic and
parasympathetic systems.
What is the effect of the symathetic system on the heart, breathing and peristalisis

What does antagonistic mean?
They have oppsoite effects
Describe The converging neural pathway
impulses from several neurons travel to one neuron.
This increases the sensitivity to excitatory or Inhibitory signals.
Describe The diverging neural pathway
Impulses from one neuron travel to several neurons so
affecting more than one destination at the same time.
