What are the causes of eczema?
A
Atopic dermatitis has a multifactorial aetiology, with a combination of genetic susceptibility and
environmental factors. Defects in the skin’s barrier function and immune dysregulation following allergen exposure are thought to be key components in the
development of this disease.

A
- Allergic rhinitis
- Asthma
- FHx

What is the presentation of eczema?
A
- Pruritus
- Dry skin
- Involvement of flexures eg ankles, elbows, wrists

What are DDx?
A
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis (this is not pruritic)
- Irritant contact dermatitis
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Scabies
- Psoriasis

What is the treatment of eczema?
A
- Moisturisers
* Topical corticosteroids
