9. HPV (papillomaviruses) Flashcards
Genome of HPV?
Circular dsDNA w/ 2 promoters (P97, P670)
2 capsid proteins of HPV?
L1 (major), L2 (minor)
In HPV, what processes occur in the nucleus?
Replication, transcription, HPV assembly
What is responsible for initiating viral replication in HPV?
E1 and E2
How does E2 function in HPV temporal control?
Binds to P97 (early promoter) and represses transcription of E6 and E7
How is E6 an oncogene?
Ubiquitinates p53 = inhibits cell cycle and blocks apoptosis
How is E7 an oncogene?
Binds to Rb to release E2F = activates cell cycling and DNA replication genes
Which HPV types are responsible for 70% of all cervical cancers?
HPV 16, 18
2 HPV vaccines?
Gardasil, Cervarix
In the case of cervical cancer, what does HPV induce and prevent?
Uncontrolled proliferation of basal epithelial cells and prevents them from differentiating
2 HPV promoters?
Early = P97
Late - P670
