Q

ID of sacocystis spp.

oocysts sporulate in the intestine of the final host thus what is commonly seen in fecal exam?

what can be ID’d in the IH?

A

sporulated oocyst with 2 sporocytes each containing 4 sporozoites.

Q

Sarcocysitis spp.’s life cycle includes ________ reproduction in the final host & _________ reproduction in the IH.

Q

What is the route of infection for Sarcocystis spp. & what is the infective stage?

A

ingestion of a mature sarcocyst with bradyzoites in muscle tissue of the IH.

sporocysts are infective immediatly after discharge from the host. IH host becomes infected by eating sporocysts in final hosts feces.

Q

what are the clinical signs / pathologies of the hosts infected with Sarcocystis spp.?

A

final host is asymtomatic (sexual reproduction)

cattle/herbivores as the IH with schizogony in the in the endothelium may result in fatal dz (asexual repro). Clinical signs are often observed with the release of the second wave of merozoites about 4-6wks after infection.

Q

How can prevention of Sarcocystis spp spread be controled if one is to attempt interupting the life cycle?
