A
  • Allergic to Atrovent, atropine, anticholinergic derivatives, soy & peanuts
  • Do not give to pt younger than 12 yo

Adverse reactions

  • H/A
  • Papitations
  • Nervousness
  • Dizziness
  • Aggravates HTN
  • Epistaxis
  • Exacerbates cough symptoms
  • Blurred vision, conjunctivitis, local irritation
  • Nasal dryness, congestion and burning
  • Taste perversion, hoarsness, pharyngitis

Drug interactions

A
  • None in emergency setting
  • Safe when used in conjunction with beta adrenergic bronchodilators
  • Can be used with pulmonary medications like methylxanthines and corticosteroids

Dosage and administration

A
  • PT must be at least 12 yo
  • 500µg 3-4 times a day by NEB, with doses 6-8 hrs apart
  • Can be mixed in the NEB with albuterol or metaproternol if used within 1 hr
