Aims:

Types of offenders and criminality-> Probation officers will focus on different strains/types of offenders e.g. youth offenders drug offenders etc

What is the probation role in external social control
They use coercion to achieve desired results e.g. if you breach terms of order on the probation you will be re-arrested and sent back to prison
Deterrence->with the continued threat of custody for future breaking of the law(individual)
Fear of the restrictions and conditions the probation will impose(general)

Prosecute suspects

Take people to court
How is the CPS funded and what is its philosophy
Government tax a d to prosecute offenders and secure an guilty outcome
What are the working practices of the CPS
Types of offenders and criminality->they have specialised prosecutor for different types of crime->more likely to be successful
Various levels of crime but only ones that pass the full code test->different types of offenders

What is the CPS role in external social control
They use coercion to achieve a desired results e.g. if you commit an offence the cps will prosecute you to ensure you cannot commit those offences again
Deterrence-> Individual of the continued threat oaf being prosecuted by the cps

How is the judiciary funded and what is their philosophy
Governmental tax and to run trials and decide the outcome to deliver justice
What is the working practice of the judiciary
Types of offender/criminality-> Most serious types of criminality while low level criminality will be dealt by magistrates, there are different level of judges depending on the case and they all swear by oath to make decision based on fact

Judges use coercion to achieve desired results for example, they sentence criminals to various punishments which one offender is forced to obey

What are the working practices of the police
Types of criminality/offenders->prisons are divided into different categories depending(A-D) with a being for most serious offenders and if prisoners are well behaved they move up levels to gain rights and chance for early release

What is the role of prisons in external social control
Coercion the prison service will hold you against your will to ensure that behaviour is in a controlled environment
