Acid-base Reactions 3 Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
What is a buffer solution ?
A
One where the PH does not change significantly if small amounts of acid or base are added to it.
It is a solution of weak acid or base and its conjugate base or acid.
2
Q
What is the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation?
A
PH = pKa + log[A-][HA]
3
Q
How to select an indicator for the reaction ?
A
Choose an indicator that changes colour within the range of the steep part of a titration curve
4
Q
What is the equivalence point ?
A
The point where the moles of acid equal the moles of base in the reaction, meaning that the acid has been completely neutralised by the base or vice versa
