ADM Flashcards
(16 cards)
ADM
The mgmt and execution of all mil matters, not included in tactics and strategy, primarily in the fds of lgs and personnel mgmt and also internal mgmt of units.
Adm covers the following aspects: -
(a) General Adm. This is the formulation, issue and general application of major administrative policy throughout a force or a theatre of war.
(b) Local Adm. This is the particular application and execution of the administrative policy as it affects a particular area or unit. It deals with the provision of supplies, accommodation, medical and sanitary arrangements, and allied facilities, to tps located in the area. The responsibility regarding discipline and grant of leave will be specified in the orders.
Administrative Area
An area in which administrative units and administrative echelons are located, and from where they carry out their functions.
This may involve off-loading of tpt in the area. An administrative area differs from a maint area in that, it does not hold dumped stocks in excess of the fmn’s 2nd line holdings.
An administrative area will take its name from the fmn which establishes it, and controls it, such as DAA.
Maint Area
An area where administrative reserves are held and depots or installations located for the maint of a force.
An area in which stocks are held on the grnd for the maint of the forces in the fd and to meet any emergency.
Maint areas will be called by the name of the fmn controlling them, such as DMA.
Where, a maint is controlled by an area or sub area HQs it will be termed as Fwd Maint Area.
The maint area may be established at any fwd level, i.e. from Bde to Army.
Lgs
(a) The science of planning and carrying out the movement and maint of forces.
(b) In its most comprehensive sense, those aspects of mil ops which deal with the following: - [DMA2] 4
(i) Design and development, acquisition, storage, movement, distribution, maint, evac and disposition of material.
(ii) Movement, evac and hospitalization of personnel.
(iii) Acquisition or construction, maint, op and disposition of facilities.
(iv) Acquisition or furnishing of service.
(c) Lgs does not encompass adm of tps, namely pay, welfare of families, discipline and unit Adm.
Back Loading
The process of transferring of repaired vehicles, guns or other heavy equipment from unit lines or a fwd workshop to the one in the rear with the corps or army area.
Back Loading Point
- A location, at which equipment is collected for back loading and/or evac.
- Normally in the areas where fwd repair workshops are either located or positioned to be located.
- Locality in which equipment and casualties beyond the capability of fmn workshop are located prior to back loading by recovery resources of a higher fmn.
War Wastage Rates
These rates lay down the wastages for all items of equipment, vehicles and stores. They form the basis for provisioning for the army and for stocking the army and corps maint areas. They cover the following conditions: -
(a) Peace
(b) Quite
(c) Contact
The wastage rates, particularly of contact will vary widely in different types of trn. These rates are determined from past experience.
Turn around/ Turn around time
It is the TIME,
1. Which a Tpt echelon takes to move fwd
2. Deliver its load
3. Return to the replenishing area, refill
4. Return to the point, from which it started.
Circuit of Action
It is the RETURN DISTANCE, covered by a Tpt echelon, between the points where it loads and where it delivers its load.
1st and 2nd Line Scales
Quantities of combat supplies to be held in a fmn vary from one op to another and are decided by the staff. When this decision is made, the level of supplies which a fmn is to hold is called the Full Unit Scale.
(a) The 1st Line Scale
This is the quantity of combat supplies which is normally held by the unit on 1st line Tpt. It is calculated to sustain that unit in ops for a specific length of time without re-supply. It is controlled by the unit cdr. If unit tpt cannot carry the 1st line scale then the balance is either dumped in or near the unit’s location or carried by 2nd line Tpt.
(b) The 2nd Line Scale
This is the balance of the full unit scale. It is normally held on 2nd line Tpt or dumped in the fmn area and is controlled by the fmn HQs directly administering the unit in ops.
1st Line Amn
This is the amn authorized for wpns in the unit and is divided into two parts as under:
(a) On Wpn Scale (Pouch) . In case of personal wpns, this is carried on the man. In case of other wpns, it is carried so as to be immediate available.
(b) Unit Reserve. This amn reserve enables the unit to replenish in battle. It is carried in the unit F, A or A1 and A2 echelon.
2nd Line Amn
The 2nd line amn is carried within the Div and is available as immediate reserves to replenish the expenditure of amn in units. In practice this is about 50 % of 1st line amn.
